It's nice seeing some of Poe's lesser-known works on screen.

Roger Vadim uses a leopard to show the passage of time. vadim's film seems to be mostly about jane running around in sexy '60's lingerie and orgy shots. Sure the pacing is questionable, the sound editing is lazy at best and Fonda seems to have walked out of the dubbing booth altogether halfway through, but I’ll take medieval Barbarella over that Fellini bullshit any day. I thought I had missed something but it was just a bit underwhelming.
A much better director at work brings a far more controlled and enjoyable film. I'm generally not a big omnibus fan, but the brevity of the episodic format worked for me here, I think because each tale was interesting and exactly the right length.

It's hypnotic at first, but it becomes tedious. "William Wilson" offers a slight uptick due largely to a fierce performance from Alain Delon as the titular sociopath whose twisted games of abuse are continually interrupted by…. I doubt it would be this cool. Still, Poe's grim fatalism is delicious. The first two films in this anthology can kind of be described as seeing a really bad opening act when you go to a concert.
