Yeah Zero taught me this and it's very reliable, but he also said it's not a good way to learn to do short hops because its sort of a crutch and doesnt give you the full control that doing it manually would. It originally was a glitch in SSB as shielding overrides lag frames from aerial attacks..

However, you do lose manual aerial control that way, but the manual way really is only a matter of just quickly releasing the button within 3 frames.
I was trying to get the short hop down and could do it in training pretty well but in the heat of online struggled to do such light presses, especially while trying to fast fall Nair.

I feel I am physically unable to tap the button so slightly to short hop consistently lol, any tips? Short hop attacks do less damage and knockback than aerial attacks done from a full jump. Being able to map buttons to short hop/full hop or being able to disable smash/tilt on your A button and all the other ridiculously specific control alterations people are constantly asking for are just asking to make the skill gap more narrow. Just go in practice mode and practice short hop fast falling and you should be able to get it pretty quickly. Please read the rules before submitting content. The biggest thing is that you just need to keep practicing, you'll get it down consistently if you keep it up and burn it into your muscle memory. Short hops can also be combined with b-reverses and wavebounces for tricky and unusual momentum changes.

This is another simple concept that Smash Ultimate just doesn’t teach you.
I just hate how quick you have to be to get that short hop, its dumb, I really just want a separate button for short hops.

To do a short hop it is basically just pushing the button quickly within a certain amount of frames.

Trying to do shorthops without attacking is a little hit or miss. I can go into training and practice just the short hop and do it 9 times out of 10, but as soon as I try to run at the dummy and short hop then aerial, I end up doing a full hop every time.

I play Joker so I would like to be able to do short hops reliably for the upair dragdown combos which dont seem to work well with rising upairs.
